UNITAR’s Chemicals and Waste Management Programme emphasizes cooperation among national stakeholders and international partner organizations (often across the IOMC) in order to foster an integrated approach to training, capacity building, and research.

Including:

  • Guidance and support for countries to prepare national assessments and action plans, through multi-stakeholder processes;
  • Specialized training and capacity building programmes on a range of topics: the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTR), ratification of international agreements, nanomaterials, the intergovernmental science-policy panel, waste management, plastic waste, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and more;
  • Engaging actively in multiple areas of the Global Framework on Chemicals, including: indicators and measurability, economic and industry sectors (transparency, traceability, disclosure, reporting), and national legislation;
  • Serving as the Administering Organization (AO) of the IOMC.
