The IOMC participated at the resumed 4th Meeting of the "intersessional process considering the Strategic Approach and sound management of chemicals and waste beyond 2020 (IP-4)" in Nairobi, Kenya, from 27 February to 3 March 2023 ("IP4.2"). Of particular interest to the IOMC were issues related to indicators and measurability for the new instrument, managing existing policy issues (EPIs), the need for meaningful multisectoral engagement, and the IOMC proposal to include Implementation Programmes in the “Beyond 2020” framework to help achieve its strategic objectives and targets.
Preceding IP-4.2, the IOMC hosted a technical briefing on "Implementing the “Beyond 2020” Strategic Objectives and Targets through inclusive Programmes". In the margins of the
meeting, the IOMC also met with representatives of the Major Group for Children
and Youth (MGCY) Chemicals and Waste Platform. The IOMC looks forward to the
final phase of the IP process in September 2023 followed by ICCM-5.
